Aloha!

Keali`i heard the song "Nada Soso" featured on a JAL flight in 2000 or 2001(?). He fell in love with the melody but did not know who wrote or sang the song. He would sing it in his Tokyo concerts and ask people to tell him the singer. Finally we found a CD of BEGIN and were very happy.
He has been singing this song about his grandmother's house at many concerts, and when it came time to record a CD we contacted the group BEGIN and asked permission to adapt their melody to Keali`i's Hawaiian song.
I believe the translation of "Nada Soso" is something like "Trail of Tears," which is interesting because the Hawaiian words are similar in feeling.

Let me be clear this is NOT a case of marketing. Keali`i never does
anything musically unless he feels it strongly in his heart. We hope it is more of a collaboration between Hawaiian and Japanese composers to show how music is a common element in both cultures.
We understand this is a very popular song in Japan and hope we have not offended anyone.

Mahalo for your question.

Aloha - Fred
